Penrhyn

A modern castle built in 19th century and in excellent condition. Well worh a visit. Railway museum, Cafe etc,Just outside Bangor. Approx. 31 ml

Gwydir

Although not an authentic castle it has a very early history and well worth a visit. Well maintained with superb gardens. 1 ml west of Llanrwst. Approx. 38 ml

Beaumaris

The largest built by Edward 1. In very good order, this moated castle on Anglesey has an exhibition and gift shop. Wall walks and tunnels. Approx. 31 ml

Castles in NW Wales

Criccieth

Built between 1230 & 1239 and managed by  CADW.  Well  organised museum & shop. Mainly in ruins. Approx 5 ml

Harlech

Built between 1283 & 1295 and managed by CADW. Good exhibition and gift shop.In fairly good condition.. Approx. 23 ml

Dolbadarn

One of the earliest castles built by the Welsh, prior to Edward, in around 1240. Set above Llyn Padarn, Llanberis. Approx. 26 ml

Conwy

A very impressive Edwardian castle with wall walks. Good exhibition and stunning views up and down the Conwy valley. Approx. 43 ml

Dolwyddelan

Another early 13th century castle, built at the birthplace of Prince Llwellyn.  On the A 470 5 miles south of Betws- y-Coed. Good info but no facilities. Approx. 28 ml
